JASAN Foundation Scholarship Essay Competition FAQs

1. What is the JASAN Foundation #Legacy500 Elite Sponsorship/Scholarship Programme?
The #Legacy500 Elite Sponsorship/Scholarship Programme is an annual initiative of the Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation (JASAN Foundation) that provides tuition sponsorship for indigent final-year Law students from Federal and State Universities in Nigeria to attend the Nigerian Law School (Bar Part II).
2. Who can apply?
Applications are open to:
● 500-level (final-year) Law students currently enrolled in Nigerian Federal or State Universities.
● Law graduates who completed their final exams within the last 24 months (i.e., from October 2023 to October 2025).
3. What are the eligibility requirements?
To qualify, applicants must:
● Be a current 500-level Law student or a graduate within the past 24 months from a recognised Nigerian Federal or State University.
● Have a minimum of Second-Class Lower (2.2) CGPA.
● Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential.
● Show verifiable proof of financial need.
● Be a Nigerian citizen.
4. What is the essay topic?
Applicants must write an essay on:
“The Legal Exchange: Benefits of Scholarship & Mentorship to the Student & the Legal Profession.”
5. What is the expected essay length and format?
● Word Count: 1,500 to 2,000 words (excluding bibliography/references).
● Font: Arial, size 11, black colour.
● Spacing: Double line spacing, with page numbering.
● Format: One continuous document (PDF preferred).
● File Name: Application for the NLS Bar Part II 2025/2026 Scholarship.
6. What should the video contain?
Applicants must submit a 3-minute video summarising and demonstrating their essay using the IRAC Rule (Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion).
The video must:
● Have an introduction, premise, argument, and closing remark.
● Be posted on Instagram, tagging @_jasanfoundation and using the hashtag #Legacy500.
● Include the video link in both the letter of application and email body.
7. What are the benefits of the scholarship?
Successful applicants will receive:
● Full tuition coverage for the Nigerian Law School Bar Part II programme (school fees only).
● Mentorship from senior members of the Bar and Bench through the #Legacy500 Elite Mentorship Programme.
● Networking opportunities with leading legal practitioners and scholars.
● Recognition at The Legacy Dialogue 2.0 and other JASAN Foundation events.
8. What does the scholarship cover?
The scholarship covers tuition fees only (as prescribed by the Nigerian Law School).
9. How many scholarships will be awarded?
A total of 30 students will be selected as beneficiaries for the 2025/2026 academic year.
10. What documents are required?
Applicants must submit the following:
1. One-page Formal Letter of Application addressed to The Nomination and Selection Committee, JASAN Foundation, Abuja.
2. One-page Personal and Eligibility Statement (maximum 500 words).
3. Valid School and/or Faculty ID Card.
4. Verifiable Proof of Financial Need.
5. Two Reference Letters (one academic referee from their Law Faculty and any other). Reference letters should be scanned and submitted as a single file titled “References”.
6. Essay Document
7. Video Link (to be included in the application letter and email body).
11. How should applications be submitted?
All applications should be sent via email to:

Ensure that all documents (excluding references) are combined and submitted as one continuous file (PDF recommended), with the filename: “Application for the NLS Bar Part II 2025/2026 Scholarship”
12. What is the application deadline?
Applications close at midnight on Monday, 13th October 2025.
Late submissions will not be considered.
13. When will the winners be announced?
Winners will be officially announced during The Legacy Dialogue 2.0, scheduled for Friday, 24th October 2025 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

15. What does #Legacy500 mean?
