JASAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES PANEL OF JUDGES FOR THE 2ND EDITION OF THE #LEGACY500 ELITE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME ESSAY COMPETITION

The Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation (JASAN Foundation) is delighted to formally announce the distinguished Panel of Judges for the 2nd Edition of the#Legacy500 Elite Scholarship Programme and Essay Competition, exclusively designed for final year (500 Level) Law Students of Nigerian Federal and State Universities.

This 2nd Edition of the competition challenges applicants to write an essay on the topic: “The Legal Exchange: Benefits of Scholarship & Mentorship to the Student & the Legal Profession.”

The Judges, who are very eminent and distinguished legal personalities, will provide rigorous, fair, and objective evaluations of the submissions. Their collective expertise reflects the Foundation’s thrust for excellence and vision of building a lasting legacy for the Nigerian legal profession by identifying and nurturing the next generation of elite legal practitioners.

As an expansion of the Programme, this year 30 (Thirty) successful Applicants will be awarded full sponsorship covering tuition fees at the Nigerian Law School [Bar Part II 2025/2026 Session].

Beyond the tuition fees, they will gain access to mentorship from elite legal practitioners, high-value networking opportunities, and the exclusive #Legacy500 Elite Mentorship Platform—a global network of emerging and distinguished legal professionals.

Meet our Esteemed Panel of Judges:

1.Prof. John O. A. Akintayo, Ph.D

Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan

A Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law with deep expertise in Constitutional Jurisprudence, Prof. Akintayo has written extensively on the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He has served on multiple Law Revision Committees and previously chaired the NBA Ibadan Branch. A respected academic and thought leader, his service spans the Bar, the academy, and faith-based legal networks.

2.Mr. Kehinde O. Ogunwumiju, OFR, SAN

Managing Partner, Afe Babalola & Co.

An accomplished litigator and arbitrator with expertise in commercial, maritime, and oil & gas law, Mr. Ogunwumiju is especially renowned for his work in election petition cases. Elevated to the rank of SAN in 2017 and honoured as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 2023, he is a trusted advisor and distinguished leader in the legal profession.

3.Chief Aikhunegbe A. Malik, SAN

Founding/Principal Partner, A.A Malik & Co.

A courtroom expert and accomplished arbitrator, Mr. Malik has handled landmark cases across Nigeria’s legal landscape. With dual Master’s degrees, professional certifications, and broad practice experience, he has contributed to oil & gas law, arbitration, and tax practice. He is recognised for his social impact and leadership, with the traditional title Adididi of Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

4.Chinua Asuzu

Dean of The Write House

Africa’s foremost legal-writing scholar, Mr. Asuzu is the author of several influential works including Judicial Writing: A Benchmark for the Bench. He is the Dean of The Write House and Senior Partner at Assizes Law Firm. With over three decades of intensive study and teaching, he is widely regarded as a thought leader in legal writing, judicial reasoning, and legislative drafting.

5.Dr. Anne Uruegi Agi

Legal Practitioner and Law Lecturer, University of Calabar

With about 2 decades of diverse legal practice, Dr. Agi combines litigation, corporate law, and academia. A Ph.D. holder in Intellectual Property Law and co-founder of LearnSpace Foundation, she pioneers space law and education in Africa. An author, advocate, and mentor, she is actively engaged in professional associations including FIDA, AWLA, and NBA-SPIDEL.

The winners of the #LEGACY500 Elite Scholarship Competition will be announced at the Legacy Dialogue 2.0, scheduled for Friday, 24th October 2025, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, Nigeria from 10AM. The Legacy Dialogue will also witness the formal launch of the #Legacy500 Elite Mentorship Platform, alongside the announcement of the 30 scholarship awardees.
