Scholarship Opportunity for the Nigerian Law School Bar Part II 2024/2025 Session
This public announcement is introducing the Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation [JASAN
Foundation] Scholarship Programme and Competition.
As part of the launch of the Organisation, as well as “The Legacy Dialogue” and inauguration
of the #Legacy500 Elite Mentees, the JASAN Foundation is organising an essay competition
for the benefit of final year 500 Level Law Students of all Law Faculties of Federal and State
Universities across the Federation. Therefore, interested 500 Level / Final Year Law Students
are invited to write an essay as well as provide a short video recording on the topic:
“The role, challenges and strategies of mentorship in the Nigeria Legal Profession”.
The essay competition topic is an opportunity for the Student Applicant to reflect on his\her
education over the course of his/her stay in the university, ruminate on the legal practice
opportunities that lie ahead and proffer suggestions on the required mentorship that the
individual lawyer in particular and the legal profession in general requires to succeed in these
opportunities.
10 (Ten) Applicants stand the chance to win scholarships / sponsorship opportunities to attend
the mandatory training at the Nigerian Law School [Bar Part II] to fulfil the requirements to be
called to the Nigerian Bar and pursue their legal practice dreams. This prestigious scholarship
covers the tuition for the one-year programme, providing a unique chance to excel in legal
education without the personal financial burden.

B. Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must currently be a 500 Level Law Student from a recognised Nigerian Federal or State University.
- Applicant must have a minimum of Second-Class Lower [2.2] Grade point [evidence of
current CGPA at the time of application should be included]. - Applicant must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and potentials.
- Applicant must show verifiable proof of financial need.
C. Application Requirements:
- This contest is open only to Nigerian 500 Level / final year law students in Federal and State Universities.
- 1 Page Formal Letter of Application addressed to:
The Nomination and Selection Committee JASAN Foundation, Abuja, FCT – Nigeria - 1 Page Personal Statement [Maximum of 500 words].
- Scanned copy of a valid school and/or Faculty ID Card.
- Verifiable proof of financial need.
- Scanned copies of 1 Page Reference Letters respectively from two (2) Referees (1 of
whom must be an academic from their university law faculty) both submitted along with
the Eligibility Documents and ID Card as one (1) continuous document with the
Title/File Name “References”. - A written essay of between 1,500 to 2,000 words on the topic: “The role, challenges
- and strategies of mentorship in the Nigeria Legal Profession” [bibliography and
- references are excluded from the word count].
- All entries [inclusive of the Formal Letter of Application, Personal Statement & Essay]
should be prepared in font type Arial (11-points Black), with double line spacing and
page numbering as one (1) continuous document and submitted with the Title/File
Name: “Application for the NLS Bar Part II 2024/2025 Scholarship”. - Applicants shall, in addition to the essay, make a three (3) minutes video summarising
and demonstrating the Essay. Using the IRAC Rule which is – Issue, Rule, Application
and Conclusion, videos must have an introduction, a premise, argument and closing
remark. - The video is to be posted on Instagram, tagging @_jasanfoundation, using the
hashtag #Legacy500, and a link to the video provided in the letter of application as well
as the body of the email.
D. Rules / Guidelines for submission:
- This is an Essay Competition with a requirement for participants to submit a three (3)
- minutes video presentation alongside their written essay.
- The essay must be written in English.
- AI / Chat-GPT generated submissions are not eligible and will be disqualified.
- Entries should be submitted as one document in both Word and Pdf formats.
- Both Reference letters should be submitted as one document in Pdf format.
- Entries must not include any pictures or other graphical illustrations.
- Entries MUST NOT CONTAIN any indication of the Applicant’s name, school, number,
email address, or other means of identification or affiliation. These details should only
be included in your cover email when submitting. - All essays must be original works specifically written for the competition and plagiarism
of any kind will result in disqualification. - Co-authorship of essay is not permitted.
- Applicants are to submit only one entry which Cover Email MUST CONTAIN only two
(2) attachments viz: (a) Application as one continuous document, and (b) References
as one continuous document. - Current contact information of each Applicant including phone number, email address
and links to all of his/her social media platforms MUST ACCOMPANY THE ENTRY and
be stated only in the Applicant’s cover email. - HARD COPIES and submissions after the announced deadline will not be considered.
- Essays will be judged by an independent expert Panel of Judges.
- The winners shall be announced during “The Legacy Dialogue” and Launch of the
“JASAN Foundation” which is scheduled for Friday, 13th September 2024.
E. What our panel of judges will look out for:
- Originality of thought;
- Factual accuracy, imagination, creativity and innovation;
- Structural flow, clarity of thought & expression, and grammatical accuracy;
- Depth of analysis;
- Relevance to the Legal Profession;
- Relevance to national, regional and/or international context;
- Clear policy suggestions, and/or pathways;
- Personal integrity of Applicant; and
- Conformity to contest rules.
